The Drift In

Concepting

Responsibly using A.I. to enhance design

AI is obviously a divisive subject. It too often blurs the lines between inspiration and theft.

But in this industry, you have to be on top of the latest tech and trends.

To ensure ethical use we only used ai generated images as a jumping off point. Used our own sketches and concepts to prompt the ai. We also vigorously searched to make sure nothing was just straight up theft.

The Drift In was designed to be a multi function space. Able to hold large presentations, ad a customizable racing game and be an online third space. It was a test in not only using a.i. as a tool, but also meant to be available on a wide range of devices and platforms.

Once a sold theme, color palette and some fun details were established, I sketched out a fresh plan for the models.

This kept the team from completely relying on ai and made sure we had the space needed for a mixed reality space.

As retro futurism was the initial inspiration, the basic shapes of the environment were inspired by mid century animation.

Specifically focusing on the atomic age and futurism.

Every space diner needs a robot chef. It’s not every day you get to rig and animate a robot to cook space diner food.

All of the animations were created on the same timeline and then broken up in Unity to be triggered or randomly played while a player was in the environment.

The Drift In was launched on the Spatial.io platform. A Unity based multi reality experience.

This meant the world had to be optimized for VR, mobile, desktop app and browser.
