The Drift In

Concepting
Responsibly using A.I. to enhance design
AI is obviously a divisive subject. It too often blurs the lines between inspiration and theft.
But in this industry, you have to be on top of the latest tech and trends.
To ensure ethical use we only used ai generated images as a jumping off point. Used our own sketches and concepts to prompt the ai. We also vigorously searched to make sure nothing was just straight up theft.

Once a sold theme, color palette and some fun details were established, I sketched out a fresh plan for the models.
As a lot of my projects go, I started out with pen and paper for the very first concepting and initial design phases.
MODELING
Creating the foundation through shapes and blocking
With a retro futurism style, I wanted to start the blocking of the overall scene using shapes associated with the atomic era.
Animation
Bringing the models to life & giving interest to the scene
Every space diner needs a robot chef. It’s not every day you get to rig and animate a robot to cook space diner food.
All of the animations were created on the same timeline and then broken up in Unity to be triggered or randomly played while a player was in the environment.
The Drift In was launched on the Spatial.io platform. A Unity based multi reality experience.
This meant the world had to be optimized for VR, mobile, desktop app and browser.
